Jackets
The long-sleeved jacket is a key piece of the polished look for a premier highland dancer. Though not required by SOBHD dress code, most premier dancers choose to finish their kilt outfit with a jacket. Clean lines and beautiful tailoring bring an air of elegance and professionalism to a dancer's ensemble.
Made to measure, a custom highland jacket must move with the dancer and fit properly. Poor fit can imply movement or poor positioning that isn't truly there, while a well tailored jacket can enhance a dancer's positioning. A minimum of two fittings are required for each jacket to ensure the perfect fit. Each jacket is made with high quality cotton velvet, carefully selected to compliment the dancer's kilt, built with hair canvas and additional internal structure to ensure durability, and finished with traditional dutch braid and highland buttons. The sleeve may be finished with 3 or 5 tiny highland buttons and a modesty panel is placed behind the hooks to ensure full coverage.

Vests
Vests are appropriate for all levels of competition in highland dancing. They are also more forgiving on fit for a growing dancer and are an excellent choice for young children.

Linings
What's the point of it all if you aren't having fun along the way? Thistle Do Nicely is known for finishing off each jacket and vest with a fun lining. Using high quality cotton, these linings help the dancer show off a bit of their personality in a way that doesn't interfere with their dancing. Like a fun little secret, a special lining can help make your dancer smile and remember that dancing for fun is really what it's all about!
As a general recommendation, if the outfit is intended for resale once it is outgrown, it is best to choose more generic patterns, such as hearts, dots, kittens, etc. Highly specific linings, such as referencing certain television shows or movies, could impede resale value. While it is possible to replace the lining in a jacket, it is a time-consuming and costly alteration.
